Criticism of BJP, RSS: Rahul Gandhi gets booked in Assam
text_fieldsGuwahati: A case has been registered against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at Guwahati's Pan Bazar Police Station, charging him with acts endangering the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country. The case was registered on Sunday on the basis of a complaint filed by a person identified as Monjit Chetia. It was Rahul’s statement of “fighting the Indian state” that prompted the person to file the complaint, Mint reported.
The Assam Police registered the case under sections 152 and 197(1)d of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which includes a cognizable and non-bailable offence.
On January 15, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul, said that the BJP and RSS have captured every single institution, and people are fighting both the entities as well as the Indian State itself. He was speaking at the inauguration of the Congress’s new headquarters at Kotla Road in Delhi.
Monjit Chetia alleged in his FIR that Rahul’s statement was a serious threat to public order and national security. He added in his FIR that the Congress leader attempted to delegitimize the authority of the State to portray a hostile force, thereby creating a dangerous narrative that could provoke unrest and separatist sentiments.
Chetia claimed that Rahul made the remarks in frustration over repeated failures in elections.
Meanwhile, the Congress leader launched a “White T-shirt Movement” on Sunday to protest injustice and inequality. He urged people to be a part of it.
He emphasized that Prime Minister Modi had turned his back on the nation’s poor while focussing on enriching a select few capitalists. He pointed out that Modi’s actions furthered inequalities in India.
