Hyderabad: After a woman in Hyderabad spotted a live snail in her food order, which she shared on social media, a restaurant here is facing severe backlash. The woman ordered avocado quinoa salad through the online food delivery platform from Swiggy, Siasat reported.

Following her posting a video of the terrible experience she had, many expressed concerns about food hygiene and safety at eateries in the city.

The woman ordered the quinoa avocado salad from Shoyu via Swiggy. Opening the parcel, she noticed the live snail in the dish. She placed the snail on a napkin that was branded with Shoyu’s logo.

Siasat reported that this was not an isolated incident in the city, and there were multiple instances of food safety violations recently. A biriyani order from a restaurant in Ghatkesar served a blade, which brought the establishment under fire.

In another incident, three people fell ill after having biriyani and grilled chicken at a local restaurant in the city.

Following similar incidents, the Food Safety Department of Telangana ran inspections which brought severe violations such as improper storage of food items in refrigerators and unhygienic kitchen conditions. However, these violations persist in the city despite periodic raids and inspections by the department, Siasat reported.

According to the news agency, many eateries maintain clean dining spaces, but their kitchen and storage areas are in pathetic condition. Incidents such as this call for strict enforcement of food safety regulations, the report says.
