'What this Jai Shri Ram mean?' this British singer wonders in Mumbai
text_fieldsMumbai: The lead singer of British band Coldplay, Chris Martin, acknowledged what Britain did to pre-independence India. He asked Indians forgiveness for “everything the Britishers did”, NDTV reported. The band's performance was embraced by the crowd, and they erupted in cheers to his thoughtful gesture, the report said.
In a heartfelt bid to connect with the audience, Martin expressed his gratitude towards the humongous audience who attended and welcomed their concert at DY Patil Stadium here on Saturday.
"Thank you for welcoming us even though we are from Britain. Thanks for forgiving us for everything the Britishers did," NDTV quoted the singer.
A viral video featuring Martin showed him saying “Shukriya”, a Hindi word, expressing his gratitude and charming his fans.

At one point, he read a placard reading “Jai Shri Ram” among the crowd, and asked the audience what it meant, reports NDTV reported.

At the event, Coldplay played their biggest hits, such as Paradise, Viva La Vida, Adventure of a Lifetime, and Yellow, among others. The band will be performing in Mumbai again on January 21 and 22 before leaving for Ahmedabad for shows on January 25 and 26. These are going to be live streamed on Disney+Hostar.
