May the light of peace spread
text_fieldsA temporary halt is being called to the brutality of the genocidal war that has been raining fire in the skies of Gaza for fifteen months. The peace-loving world hopes that the light of peace will once again spread over Gaza and that a smile of hope will shine from the ruins of the shattered city. The streets of Palestine and all justice-seekers around the world who have spoken out against Israel's genocide have been soothed by Qatar Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani’s announcement and US President Joe Biden's confirmation that a ceasefire in Gaza will begin on the 19th of this month in accordance with the agreement between Israel and Hamas. However, at the time of writing this, Israel has not signed the agreement. Meanwhile, what stood out in the jubilation with their traditional songs and conversation of the people of Gaza, is the joy of stepping into the expanse of relief and victory with legendary tenacity. With tears of repressed sorrow, they have declared that they have the strength to restore a broken nation and revive wounded lives.
The Gaza Strip has been subjected to the most brutal attacks in history for the last 467 days. It was already a prison due to the blockade. After October 2023, their entire living quarters were bombed. Hospitals, schools, and playgrounds were all destroyed. Fire rained down from the sky in torrents on the tents where they had resettled amidst the devastation of war. Food and medicine were blocked at the Rafah border. People began to die of hunger without food. With the help and tacit approval of major world powers, those who have the most sophisticated weapons in the world tried to wipe out from the map a place with a population of roughly 30 lakh people, that is smaller than any city in the world. They resisted the occupation even though they saw their own homes being destroyed and their loved ones becoming martyrs. The lives of more than 1.5 lakh people were sacrificed. More than 20 lakh people lost their homes. 90 per cent of the buildings in the Gaza Strip were destroyed. With the full support of the United States and European countries, the Israeli army searched every corner of Gaza with sophisticated equipment for the hostages. Most of the Hamas leaders were martyred. Even then, the Israeli army was unable to find or free them. Netanyahu's claim that Hamas would be eliminated turned out to be empty words. They were finally forced to accept the ceasefire agreement by recognizing Hamas.
The Palestinian people have shown resistance and heroism that has never been seen before in history. Even when the country is in ruins, they have taught us that with unwavering determination, they can resist the advocates of death and destruction who try to decimate their pride and dignity. They remind the world of the truth that humanity will prevail no matter however hard the occupiers try. Hamas has succeeded in gaining world recognition for the cause of an independent Palestine at a great cost. In fact, this is an agreement that was too late in coming. The UN has called for a ceasefire several times. Israel was not ready to accede to it. Although Hamas was ready to accept the ceasefire agreement proposed by the United States, Israel refused. The cost of this delay was high, and many lives were sacrificed. Yet the world's nations blamed the resistance movements in Palestine. Many political parties in Israel are still not ready to accept the ceasefire. Netanyahu has lost politically. The radical Zionist groups are assessing that he has also lost militarily after 15 months of war. Minister of Finance Bezalel Yoel Smotrich and Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir of Netanyahu's cabinet are even considering withdrawing support for the Netanyahu government. Netanyahu's statement that the agreement allows the war to resume after the initial phase of the ceasefire reveals the depth of the crisis in which Israel is in. Therefore, they are not yet ready to reduce the intensity of shelling at night. In the last 24 hours, 81 Palestinians have been martyred in Gaza. However, there are indications that Trump wants to implement some secret plans within the politics of the Middle East through the agreement. It is said that Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff has given some secret assurances to Netanyahu. Whether this will torpedo peace in Palestine will become clear in the coming days.
