Deepika's character was 'only getting ready' the entire film: Kangana
text_fieldsBollywood: Actor Kangana Ranaut said that Deepika Padukone’s role in Padmaavat was insignificant since what the lead character does throughout the film is “only getting ready”.
In an interview with YouTuber Ajeet Bharti, during the promotion of her solo directorial Emergency, she said that Padukone-donned character was offered to her by director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but he refused to hand her the script.
Kangana said that she had asked Bhansali if it would be great if she could get the script of the film, but Bhansali refused, saying that he “never gives his scripts”. Then she asked him about the role of the heroine, and he replied that the hero gets struck by the heroines when he sees her getting ready in a mirror.
She continued that when she actually watched the film later, she realized that Padukone, who donned the character, was actually only getting ready in the entire film. Bhansali was right, she said.
She then said that she did not want to take any names and bring attention to any individuals.
“But I want to ask, which director should I work with?” NDTV quoted her.
Padmaavat featured Bollywood stars Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in pivotal roles, and when the former played the character of Alauddin Khilji, the latter portrayed Rajput ruler Maharawal Ratan Singh. Padukone donned the Rajput ruler’s wife, Rani Padmavati.
Kangana meanwhile premiered her directorial debut, Emergency, on Friday. It marked her biggest box-office opening in the last five years. Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Mahim Chaudhary, Vishak Nair and late actor Satish Kaushik are part of the project, NDTV reported.
