CMRL Scam: SFIO charges CM Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter Veena Vijayan
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs has granted permission to prosecute Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter, T Veena and her company Exalogic in connection with the controversial 'monthly payment scandal'.
The decision comes after the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) named Veena in the chargesheet accusing her firm of accepting pay-off ₹1.72 crore from Cochin Minerals And Rutile Ltd, The Free Press Journal reported.
It was reported when the controversy erupted that Veena allegedly accepted the money for services she never rendered.
If found guilty, she could face fine and a jail term of 8-10 years.
The scandal left Pinarayi Vijayan and his party on the defensive just as the Opposition UDF came down heavily on the government.
SFIO in its chargesheet named CMRL Managing Director Sasidharan Kartha and Finance Manager P. Suresh Kumar for allegedly siphoning ₹182 Cr, diverting money to politicians, according to The Free Press Journal.
The CMRL list reportedly carried acronyms like PV which some allude to CM Pinarayi Vijayan, nonetheless he denied it.
It is reported citing sources that Veena and Kartha will be questioned again.
