Congress president dissolves Himachal Pradesh unit, revamping likely
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal on Wednesday stated that the Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has dissolved the party’s Himachal Pradesh state unit, NDTV reported.
Himachal Pradesh is one of only three states in the country where the party has its own chief minister.
‘Honourable Congress President has approved the proposal to dissolve the entire state unit of the PCC, District Presidents and Block Congress Committees of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect,’ KC Venugopal reportedly stated.
Pratibha Singh, the widow of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, is the president of the disbanded unit.
A frontrunner for the chief minister’s post, Pratibha Singh became the head of the unit in 2022.
However, the chief minister’s post went to Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The state unit was previously dissolved in 2019 retaining the president, Kuldeep Singh Rathore, appointed earlier that year.
It is reported citing sources that the dissolving of the state unit is part of a move to revamp it.
