BJP holds key meet in Mumbai to decide Maharashtra CM amid impasse

New Delhi: The BJP leadership in Maharashtra is currently holding a legislature party meeting in Mumbai to decide on the next chief minister just as the impasse is looming large over the coalition, Mahayuti.
The saffron party’s state leadership is apparently struggling to hammer out consensus as caretaker chief minister Eknath Shinde is reported to be reluctant to make way for BJP's Devendra Fadnavis.
The Shiv Sena leader visited his village in Satara district on November 29 sparking speculation that he was unhappy about taking over Deputy Chief Minister’s post under Fadnavis.
Today’s meeting that began at 10 am, attended by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani as central observers, comes as the crisis is threatening to damage the coalition.
However, it is reported that the BJP's Devendra Fadnavis likely to take over the Chief Minister's post.
Following the meeting, Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde NCP chief Ajit Pawar will meet Governor CP Radhakrishnan to stake claim for the second term of the Mahayuti government.
Fadnavis on Tuesday evening visited Shinde at his home in Mumbai for the first time since their discussion in Delhi last week on forming the government.
It is reported citing sources that the Shiv Sena chief has agreed to serve as Deputy Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, Mumbai's Azad Maidan is getting ready for the swearing in ceremony.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside some 2,000 VVIPs and about 40,000 supporters will witness the ceremony.
The BJP-led Mahayuti swept the state polls winning 230 of 288 Assembly seats with the BJP emerging as the single largest party having highest-ever tally of 132 seats.
The other allies of the collation the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP got 57 and 41, respectively.
