IndiGo challenges report ranking it among world’s worst airlines
text_fieldsIndiGo, India’s leading budget airline, has rejected the findings of the AirHelp Score Report 2024, which ranked it as one of the world's worst airlines, placing it 103rd out of 109.
The same report ranked Air India at 61st and AirAsia at 94th.
In response to the ranking, IndiGo highlighted its consistent performance in punctuality and customer satisfaction, as reported by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The airline noted it had the lowest customer complaint ratio among carriers of similar scale.
IndiGo questioned the reliability of the AirHelp report, which is compiled by an EU-based passenger compensation agency. It criticized the lack of transparency regarding the sample size and methodology used, as well as the report's failure to align with global aviation compensation standards.
"IndiGo refutes the findings of this survey and reiterates its commitment to providing on-time, affordable, courteous, and hassle-free travel experiences for its customers," the airline stated.
DGCA data for January to September 2024 revealed that IndiGo carried over 7.25 crore passengers, commanding a market share of 61.3%. With a fleet of more than 380 aircraft, the airline operates approximately 2,100 daily flights to over 85 domestic and 30 international destinations.
The AirHelp Score Report 2024 evaluated airlines based on customer claims, on-time performance, and passenger feedback from 54 countries. Criteria included food quality, seating comfort, and crew service. The report ranked Brussels Airlines, Qatar Airways, and United Airlines as the top three airlines globally.
