KOLKATA: As Bengal is witnessing a rapid surge in Covid-19 cases, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused BJP of flouting Covid guidelines, as phase eight polling for assembly elections is due in Bengal

The TMC supremo has alleged that PM Modi's rallies have discarded Covid regulations on a mass scale, even as the cases are hitting a record high in the country.

"Do not spread coronavirus in Bengal Narendra Modiji. I am repeatedly saying this. You can visit Bengal and address rallies. But your party is bringing in people from Gujarat and Rajasthan for erecting stages and doing other works for BJP rallies. These outsiders are spreading Covid in Bengal," said Mamta while addressing a rally at Nabadwip in Nadia on Friday.

The Trinamool also claimed that the "influx" of people from other states without proper medical check-ups are aiding the spread of the virus in the state.

"These people will spread Covid in the state and go away. Last year, when the Covid situation was bad, none of these BJP leaders cared to come to Bengal," said Mamta.

However, the BJP has shot back, saying Mamata is actually doing exactly the same things she is accusing BJP of.

Earlier, Mamta had lashed out at the centre for providing an "inadequate" number of vaccines to non- BJP ruled states.
