Russian official warns of nuclear war over alleged US plot to assassinate Putin
text_fieldsA heated international controversy has erupted after Tucker Carlson, a well-known US journalist and conservative commentator, alleged that the Biden administration attempted to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Carlson made this claim on his podcast, The Tucker Carlson Show, though he did not provide concrete evidence to support his assertion.
Following Carlson’s explosive statement, the Kremlin addressed the claim. Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesperson, assured that Russia’s security services remain vigilant in protecting the President. However, Peskov refrained from confirming or denying the allegations.
"Russia’s special services are constantly taking necessary measures to ensure public safety, particularly the security of the head of state," Peskov stated.
While the Kremlin’s response was measured, Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the Russian Parliament, took a far more severe stance. He warned that any attempt to assassinate Putin could lead to catastrophic consequences, including the risk of nuclear war.
Posting on Telegram, Volodin condemned even the discussion of such a plot as a serious threat to global security. "The mere discussion of an assassination attempt on Putin is a crime, a direct path to nuclear war. International institutions must treat it as grounds for an investigation," Volodin asserted.
This is not the first time such allegations have surfaced.
In September 2022, a Newsweek report cited Pentagon sources suggesting that the US Department of Defense had considered a decapitation strike against Putin as a potential military response to his nuclear threats. Russia had previously dismissed this claim as “delusional.”
Volodin also linked Carlson’s claim to other alleged assassination attempts against world leaders. He referenced incidents involving Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, as well as an attack on former US President Donald Trump during his election campaign, suggesting these events could be part of a broader pattern.
As global reactions continue to pour in, Volodin has urged Russian security forces to remain on high alert, warning of the serious threats facing Russia. "We must understand the challenges and dangers before us and take full responsibility for protecting our country," he stated.
