Ukraine reports massive Russian strikes on energy infrastructure
text_fieldsUkraine has accused Russia of launching large-scale missile and drone attacks targeting its energy and gas infrastructure across multiple regions.
The strikes, reported on Friday, are part of Moscow’s continued efforts to disrupt the country’s power and heating supply, according to Ukrainian officials.
Energy Minister German Galushchenko stated in a Facebook post that Ukraine’s energy and gas facilities had come under heavy shelling once again. He accused Russia of attempting to inflict maximum harm on civilians by crippling essential services.
"Russia is trying to hurt ordinary Ukrainians by shelling energy and gas production facilities," Galushchenko wrote. "Their goal remains to leave us without power and heating, causing the greatest suffering to civilians."
The assault comes amid growing concerns about Western support for Ukraine, as EU leaders gathered for an emergency summit on Thursday to discuss strengthening European defense. Meanwhile, the United States has resumed negotiations with Kyiv regarding a possible ceasefire with Russia.
The attacks caused significant destruction in multiple regions.
In Kharkiv, four people were injured after a civilian infrastructure site was struck, according to Mayor Igor Terekhov. A woman was rescued from the rubble and is receiving medical treatment. A fire broke out at the impact site, damaging a nearby apartment complex and forcing evacuations.
Kharkiv Governor Oleg Synegubov reported that a private company was also hit, setting cars ablaze. Among the injured were a 65-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man, both hospitalized.
In Odesa, emergency services confirmed that a critical infrastructure facility was damaged in a separate attack on Thursday night, though no casualties were reported.
