New Delhi: Global technology giant Meta is strengthening its presence in India with plans to hire engineers and product specialists, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) roles. The company, which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has announced a new office in Bengaluru, aligning itself with tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, which have already built strong engineering and product teams across India.

According to a job listing on Meta’s website, the company is seeking an engineering director responsible for assembling a strong technical team in Bengaluru. This move is expected to shape Meta’s long-term engineering presence in the country.

Several Meta employees on LinkedIn revealed that the new Bengaluru centre is being set up by the company’s enterprise engineering team, which develops internal tools to enhance productivity within Meta. Additionally, the company is hiring hardware engineers to support its expanding AI infrastructure, including data centre operations and custom chip development.

Meta, which entered the Indian market in 2010, already has offices in Gurugram, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Until now, its workforce in India has largely focused on sales, marketing, business development, operations, policy, legal, and finance. The expansion in Bengaluru marks a strategic shift toward strengthening its engineering capabilities in the country.

A Meta spokesperson confirmed that the company is looking to hire a “small number” of engineering professionals in Bengaluru. India remains Meta’s largest user market, with over a billion people using its platforms. The country has often served as a testing ground for new features and tools, including the launch of Instagram Reels in 2020 following the ban on TikTok.

Meta’s expansion comes amid increased investments by global tech firms in India. Earlier this week, Google inaugurated a large campus in Bengaluru named "Ananta," which will house teams from divisions such as Google DeepMind, Android, Search, Pay, Cloud, Maps, and Play.
