New Delhi: On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2025, tech giant Google has dedicated a special doodle to honour the contributions of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The doodle celebrates the groundbreaking achievements of visionary women who have shaped history through their contributions to space exploration, ancient discoveries, and scientific research.

International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, aims to raise awareness about issues affecting women worldwide. The 2025 theme, "For all women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment," highlights the ongoing fight for gender equality. First recognised by the United Nations in 1975, this day serves as a global reminder of the invaluable role women play across all fields.

In a blog post, Google acknowledged the transformative impact of female pioneers in STEM. “With our Doodle, we honor visionary women in STEM fields,” the company stated. “The artwork spotlights the contributions of women who revolutionised space exploration, uncovered ancient discoveries, and led groundbreaking research in physics, chemistry, and biology.”

Despite remarkable advancements, women remain underrepresented in STEM, comprising only 29 per cent of the global workforce in these fields. Google highlighted that while progress has been made, significant gaps persist. The achievements of these women symbolize the ongoing journey toward gender equality, inspiring future generations to break barriers and challenge stereotypes.

“International Women’s Day serves as a powerful reminder: the achievements of women have shaped our world throughout history. And it is because of their collective brilliance that we are able to experience the wonders of the modern world,” Google stated.

Happy International Women’s Day 2025!
