BSNL provides free SIMs, uninterrupted coverage at Maha Kumbh
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is playing a pivotal role in enhancing communication infrastructure at the Maha Kumbh 2025, with efforts ranging from providing free SIM cards to ensuring uninterrupted communication services in the Mela area, the Ministry of Communications announced on Sunday.
BSNL has established a dedicated customer service centre in the Mela area to assist pilgrims, resolve complaints, and provide seamless communication services. Pilgrims from across the country are being provided with free SIM cards from their respective states, making it easier to stay connected with their families and friends.
In the event of a lost or damaged SIM card, pilgrims will not need to return to their home states. BSNL has arranged for SIM cards from all circles nationwide to be available on-site in the Mela area.
"This service is entirely free, ensuring that pilgrims can stay in touch with loved ones without interruption. A camp office has been set up at Lal Road Sector-2 to manage all communication services," the Ministry stated.
With a surge in demand for services such as fibre connections, leased line connections, and mobile recharges, BSNL has ensured the availability of SIM cards from various states, benefiting not only pilgrims but also the security forces deployed at the event.
To support uninterrupted communication during the event, BSNL has activated 90 BTS towers in the Mela area, including 30 BTS towers with 700 MHz 4G bands, 30 BTS towers with 2100 MHz bands, and 30 BTS towers for 2G coverage.
Additionally, BSNL has provided high-speed internet, including fibre-to-the-home services, internet leased lines, Wi-Fi hotspots, webcasting, SD-WAN, bulk SMS services, M2M SIMs, and satellite phone services at the Kumbh Mela.
"Through these efforts, BSNL is ensuring reliable communication for millions of pilgrims, administrative officers, security personnel, and volunteer organizations, contributing to the smooth functioning of the event," the Ministry added.
