Baidu has officially rolled out its latest artificial intelligence agent, Xinxiang, for Android users in China, marking a significant step in its mobile AI expansion.

An iOS version is currently under review and may be launched in the coming weeks, according to recent reports.

The new AI agent, now accessible through local Android app stores such as Tencent Myapp, Huawei AppGallery, and Baidu Mobile Assistant, is aimed at offering more advanced capabilities than traditional AI chatbots. While Google Play is not available in China, users can freely download Xinxiang from these alternative platforms. There’s no official word yet on whether the app includes premium features or in-app purchases.

Xinxiang is described as being capable of handling tasks like analysing data and assisting with travel planning, although Baidu has not yet disclosed the complete range of its functionalities. Notably, these tasks go beyond what chatbots typically offer, hinting at more autonomous, agent-like behavior. AI agents differ from chatbots in that they can potentially act on behalf of users, leveraging access to files and internal data to offer personalised support and execute complex tasks independently.

Baidu claims Xinxiang offers a more efficient and intelligent user experience compared to traditional chatbot tools. The app’s launch follows closely on the heels of the company’s recent release of two powerful AI models: Ernie 4.5, a multimodal large language model capable of processing text, images, audio, and video with enhanced contextual understanding, and Ernie X1, designed for reasoning and tool usage.

It remains uncertain whether Baidu plans to make Xinxiang available internationally.
