Dubai launches ‘Safe Water for a Healthy Community’ initiative to enhance water safety
text_fieldsDubai Municipality, in collaboration with the Community Development Authority (CDA), has introduced the ‘Safe Water for a Healthy Community’ initiative, aiming to improve water system safety in homes and villas occupied by senior citizens. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s declaration of 2025 as the Year of the Community, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to building a cohesive and sustainable society.
With a focus on proactive public health protection, the initiative ensures that domestic water systems comply with the highest international quality standards. By conducting technical evaluations, laboratory testing, and engaging with the community, the program seeks to minimize health risks associated with water contamination while strengthening partnerships and service excellence.
The initial phase of the initiative will cover inspections of 42 homes and villas across 10 locations in Dubai. Expert engineering teams will carry out field assessments and collect water samples for testing at Dubai Central Laboratory. If any risks are identified, corrective measures will be taken in coordination with water treatment specialists.
Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health, and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, stressed the initiative’s significance in promoting public health and preventive measures:
"This initiative shows Dubai Municipality’s commitment to ensuring a healthy and safe environment for all community members. By implementing proactive measures, we aim to enhance public health protection, improve water quality, and strengthen Dubai’s sustainable health system. Through community engagement, education and preventive action, we are working towards a safer and healthier future for all."
Dr. Naseem also highlighted the need for regular household water testing to ensure water remains free from chemical and bacterial contamination. Maintaining high water quality standards will help mitigate the risk of diseases caused by contaminated water, ultimately protecting the community's health.
Echoing this sentiment, Muhannad Saeed, Director of the Senior Citizens Department at CDA, emphasized the initiative’s role in improving the well-being of senior citizens:
"This initiative is part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for senior citizens and ensure their well-being across various aspects. Safe water in homes is a fundamental factor in maintaining their health and daily comfort. Our collaboration with Dubai Municipality reflects our commitment to providing a safe and sustainable environment for senior citizens through proactive measures that ensure household water systems meet the highest quality standards".
Dubai Municipality and CDA will conduct educational workshops in Dubai councils to enhance public awareness of water safety and hygiene. These sessions will highlight the importance of maintaining clean water systems and their impact on public health.
Residents are encouraged to adopt sustainable water safety practices, including regular disinfection of water tanks and plumbing systems every six months using Dubai Municipality-approved service providers. Preventive maintenance is key to preventing the buildup of pollutants and ensuring efficient water systems, thereby minimizing health risks. Additionally, draining stagnant water is advised to reduce bacterial growth and contamination, ensuring a safe and hygienic water supply for households.
Through preventive measures and awareness campaigns, Dubai Municipality and CDA aim to promote long-term water safety, safeguard public health and encourage sustainable living practices throughout the emirate.
