Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al Hamad Al Mubarak Al Sabah, former Prime Minister of Kuwait, passed away on Saturday at the age of 82. Born in 1942, Sheikh Jaber had a long and distinguished career in Kuwait’s government, beginning his public service as an administrative and financial affairs controller at the Amiri Diwan.

He advanced through various prominent positions, serving as the director of administration, assistant undersecretary for administrative and financial affairs and governor of the Hawally and Ahmadi regions. His contributions to Kuwait’s development continued through several key ministerial roles, including Minister of Social Affairs and Labour and Minister of Information.

Sheikh Jaber also worked as an advisor in the Emir’s office, marking a steady rise in his governmental career. In 2001, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and in 2006, he took on the roles of First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Minister of Defence. He held these roles through multiple government formations until 2011.

Sheikh Jaber served as Kuwait’s Prime Minister from November 2011 until his resignation in 2019, guiding the nation through significant phases of development and challenges during his tenure. His passing marks the end of an era for Kuwait’s political landscape.
