Vivek Ramaswamy plans to run for Ohio governor
text_fieldsWashington: Indian-American entrepreneur and politician Vivek Ramaswamy is reportedly planning to run for governor of Ohio, according to multiple media outlets.
Ramaswamy, 39, who previously ran unsuccessfully in the Republican presidential primary, has since become a trusted ally of President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance. Trump has entrusted Ramaswamy, along with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, with spearheading efforts to reform governance.
Born in Cincinnati to Indian parents, Ramaswamy holds degrees from Harvard and Yale. He is expected to announce his candidacy for Ohio governor soon, The Washington Post reported, citing unnamed sources familiar with his plans.
“Vivek's strategy remains unchanged: to achieve significant accomplishments at DOGE [Department of Governance Efficiency] before officially launching his gubernatorial campaign,” an Ohio political operative, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Post.
According to the source, Ramaswamy has already drafted his campaign statement and is prepared to make the announcement. If elected, he would succeed Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, who is barred by term limits from seeking reelection.
The Ohio gubernatorial election is scheduled for November 2026.
