Telangana tunnel collapse: rescue efforts continue on day 15, cadaver dogs brought in
text_fieldsFifteen days after a partial collapse in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project tunnel in Telangana, rescue operations continue in full swing.
Eight individuals, including engineers and laborers, remain trapped since February 22, with teams working tirelessly under challenging conditions.
In a significant development, cadaver dogs from the Kerala Police have identified two potential spots inside the tunnel where human presence may be detected. These specially trained Belgian Malinois dogs are capable of detecting smells from a depth of 15 feet, officials said. Based on their findings, rescue teams have been removing silt from the identified areas in an effort to locate the trapped individuals.
State Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, who has been actively supervising the operation, is expected to visit the tunnel site on Saturday for further discussions with officials.
Despite the relentless efforts of rescue personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, and Navy, the operation has been hindered by slush, water seepage, and unstable terrain.
Authorities remain hopeful as teams continue working round the clock, determined to bring the trapped individuals to safety.
