SBI internet banking faces second outage this month amid technical glitches
text_fieldsState Bank of India (SBI) customers encountered yet another disruption in internet and mobile banking services today, marking the second such incident this month attributed to technical issues.
Users across the country reported difficulties with mobile banking, fund transfers, and ATM services, with the highest number of complaints relating to mobile banking failures (64%), followed by problems with fund transfers (33%) and ATM access (3%), according to data from Downdetector. The peak of these issues was observed between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM IST.
Many frustrated customers took to social media to express their concerns about failed transactions and their inability to access accounts.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) released an official statement acknowledging intermittent transaction failures affecting certain banks due to the financial year closing process. However, they assured users that the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system itself was functioning correctly and that efforts were underway to resolve the issues with the affected banks.
This disruption follows a similar incident on March 11th, when SBI customers struggled to access UPI and mobile banking services for more than four hours. The bank, which serves approximately 50 crore customers, issued a statement later that day confirming that the issues had been resolved by 5 p.m.
Although SBI apologized for the inconvenience, the exact cause of these recurring technical problems remains unclear.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been urging banks to enhance their infrastructure to prevent such outages. The regulator has emphasised the need for seamless connectivity, prompt resolution of issues, and stern action against entities found to be non-compliant with these standards.
