Ranveer Allahbadia faces fresh summons over India's Got Latent row
text_fieldsGuwahati: Assam Police are set to send fresh summons to the YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, who had not appeared before the investigation team against the earlier summons.
“A team of CID will travel shortly to Allahabadia’s house, and they will hand over a fresh set of summons for appearing before the investigation team on the probe,” said a senior police official on Friday.
Ranveer Allahbadia was summoned to appear before the Assam Police last week regarding his controversial remarks made on the "India's Got Latent" stage, which sparked widespread outrage.
A case has been filed against Ranveer Allahbadia in Guwahati, and he has been summoned to appear before the Assam Police. Meanwhile, the Guwahati Crime Branch recently questioned YouTuber Ashish Chanchalani, who is also implicated in the controversy due to his remarks on the show.
Chanchlani was interrogated for several hours at the Crime Branch office in Guwahati, where he was questioned about multiple accusations before being released in the evening.
“YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani showed up for interrogation at the Crime Branch. He has complied with our inquiry. We will phone him if necessary, but we are not currently calling him again. Police notices have not yet received a response from other people connected to the investigation. They will receive new summonses shortly,” Guwahati's Joint Police Commissioner Ankur Jain told reporters here.
The Supreme Court, on February 21, directed the governments of Maharashtra and Assam to respond to a YouTuber's plea seeking dismissal or transfer of a complaint regarding alleged pornographic remarks on a show.
Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, faced multiple complaints for his comments on parents and sex in an episode of the show hosted by Samay Raina. Ashish Chanchlani was also named in the Assam FIR due to his involvement in the controversy surrounding Allahbadia's remarks.
Chanchlani has petitioned to quash the FIR filed at the Guwahati Crime Branch, citing that a similar FIR was filed first in Maharashtra. Alternatively, he has requested that the Guwahati FIR be transferred to Mumbai.
The Gauhati High Court granted Chanchlani temporary relief on February 18 while hearing his anticipatory bail plea and directed him to appear before the investigating officer in person within 10 days.
Chanchlani's lawyer argued that their client made no statements on the show and that the FIR's allegations only pertained to the co-accused. The Guwahati Police filed an FIR on February 10 under various provisions of Indian laws, including the IT Act, Cinematograph Act, and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
