Pune police arrest gangster who hurled money during qawwali programme
text_fieldsPune: The Pune city police on Thursday arrested gangster Rizwan alias Tipu Sattar Pathan in connection with an alleged case of extortion, The Indian Express reported.
Tipu Pathan, who was charged with Section 129 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), was sent to Yerwada Central Jail for 14 days.
The action comes after a footage showed him hurling money while dancing with a group of men at a qawwali programme.
Tipu Pathan is charged with extortion after a woman from Hadapsar lodged a complaint.
The police reportedly said that Tipu Pathan and his brother Ejaz, residing in Sayyad Nagar in Hadapsar, allegedly tried to grab a piece of land on March 2.
It is reported citing police that Tipu Pathan and Ejaz along with eight others occupied a woman’s land and threatened her to vacate it, while demanding Rs 20 lakh from her if she wanted it back.
Police arrested the gangster and his brother alongside charging them under BNS sections 308(2), 329(3), 351(2), 352, 189(1), 189(2), and 191(2).
Terming Tipu and Ejaz as criminals on police records, Rajkumar Shinde, Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone 5) added that Tipu was previously charged with offences including murder, attempt to murder, and extortion.
