PM Modi welcomes Sheikh Tamim Al-Thani, Amir of Qatar, on his second State visit to India.

New Delhi: In a special gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, at the Air Force Station in Palam on Monday evening. The two leaders shared a warm embrace, reflecting the strong and friendly ties between India and Qatar.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) took to X, saying, "A special gesture for a special friend! PM Narendra Modi welcomed HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, at the airport, as he arrived in New Delhi for his second State visit to India. This visit will further strengthen the bonds of the India-Qatar partnership."

Sheikh Tamim's two-day visit to India, his second since March 2015, comes at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. The Amir is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, senior officials, and a business delegation.

On Tuesday, Sheikh Tamim will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan before engaging in talks with PM Modi at Hyderabad House to discuss various aspects of bilateral relations. The Amir will also meet with President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a banquet in his honour.

According to the MEA statement issued prior to his arrival, India and Qatar share deep-rooted historical ties of friendship, trust, and mutual respect. In recent years, the bilateral relationship has strengthened, with growing cooperation in trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

The statement also highlighted the significant contribution of the Indian community in Qatar, the largest expatriate group in the country, which plays a key role in Qatar’s development. Sheikh Tamim’s visit is expected to further accelerate the multifaceted partnership between the two nations.
