A 13 -old Muslim boy was injured in the Sarsaul area of Kanpur's Maharajpur police circle after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of minors for refusing to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’, and a case has been registered following a complaint by his grandfather.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening when the Muslim boy, who resides in Sarsaul, was heading to the bus stop to make some purchases, and he was intercepted by another juvenile from the same area along with two others.

They allegedly demanded that he bow before them and chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’, and when he refused, they assaulted him and reportedly pierced his thigh with a piece of broken glass.

According to the victim, this was not the first instance of such behaviour, and he has frequently faced threats and violence from the group for not complying with their religious demands.

That evening, they again blocked his way, forced him to chant a religious slogan, and attacked him when he refused, and the assault led to a significant injury on his left leg.

Following the incident, his family approached the Maharajpur police station, and an FIR was subsequently lodged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

ACP Chakeri, Sumit Ramtek, confirmed that an investigation is underway, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
