Muslims must learn discipline from Hindus: Yogi Adityanath
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that Muslims must learn discipline from Hindus and cited Maha Kumbh Mela as an example of Hindu pilgrims’ discipline. Talking to news agency PTI, the BJP CM was defending his government’s decision to prohibit Namaz on public roads, Times of India reported.
Adityanath claimed that Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj, which ended a month ago and was marred with incidents of violence, stampedes, fires, deaths, destruction of public property, pathetic sanitary practices, etc., was an exemplar of religious discipline and orderly conduct.
Adityanath claimed that 66 crore Maha Kumbh devotees attended the pilgrimage event without any incidents of violence, harassment or disorder.
"Roads are meant for walking, and those who are saying.... should learn discipline from Hindus. Sixty-six crore people came to Prayagraj... there was no looting anywhere, no arson anywhere, no molestation anywhere, no vandalism anywhere, no kidnapping anywhere, this is discipline, this is religious discipline," the CM, known for his controversial statements, told PTI.
"They came with reverence, participated in the 'Mahasnan', and then moved towards their destination. Festivals and celebrations or any such events should not become a medium for insolence. If you want convenience, then learn to follow that discipline as well," he said.
Last week, Meerut police issued an order banning Muslims from performing Namaz on roads on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Eid prayers were conducted across Uttar Pradesh on Monday under enhanced security measures, including AI-powered drone surveillance and social media monitoring. But a clash erupted in Meerut that injured some and ended up in arrest of three.
