Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch arrested 25-year-old teacher in the city for blackmailing and extorting money from a student's parent.

Sridevi Rudagi, who had been having an affair with a student’s father, allegedly extorted Rs 4 lakh from the man, NDTV reported.

Two others identified as Ganesh Kale, 38, and Sagar, 28 were also arrested as the trio demanded Rs 20 lakh more from the man threatening him with photos and videos of the woman’s encounters with him.

The victim, a trader living with his wife and three daughters in a western Bengaluru neighbourhood, enrolled his five-year-old daughter in 2023 in the school where the woman taught.

After they met during admission process, Rudagi kept in touch with him, before they began messaging and video-calling maintaining a separate SIM card and phone.

As the man began seeing more of her, Rudagi extorted Rs 4 lakh from him, before demanding Rs 15 lakh in January.

When he did not hand the money, she went to his home on the pretext of borrowing Rs 50,000.

When he suffered setback in his business, the man decided to relocate his family to Gujarat.

On reaching the school for the child’s Transfer Certificate, the man got cornered in Rudagi’s office in the presence of other accomplices Kale and Sagar.

They blackmailed him with the private photos and videos demanding Rs 20 lakh.

The man vainly tried to negotiate a payment of Rs 15 lakh, with an initial transfer of Rs 1.9 lakh.

Rudagi called him on his phone on March 17 reminding him of the payment.

Rs 5 lakh of the payment was meant for a police officer, Rs 1 lakh each for two men and Rudagi was to take the remaining Rs 8 lakh.

It was then the victim approached the police leading to the arrest of Rudagi, Sagar, and Kale. They were sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
