Avoid seeking assignment services: Experts tell international students in Canada
text_fieldsJalandhar: Experts have urged Indian students in Canada not to opt for agencies that offer services to complete their assignments as it would lead to failure, making them ineligible for a postgraduate work permit (PGWP), The Indian Express reported.
The outlet reported that many international students particularly from Punjab are focusing entirely on work in the foreign country rather than devoting to their primary objective of study.
Although submitting assignments is part of their study, many students neglect it after arriving in Canada focusing solely on work to earn money and aim at obtain permanent residency (PR) in Canada.
It is reported that many agencies out there put out ads on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook offering assignment services in exchange for a certain amount of money.
One such ad showed a student anxiously working on an assignment while another one says a company can help do it, giving relief to the student.
Tirath Singh, an expert in Canadian student visa services, said that many individuals posing as companies promise on social media ‘quick, cheap, or even ‘free’ assignments’ which could be ‘tempting’.
Experts warn that assignments provided by the so called companies lack originality and depth alongside being repetitive, thus failing to meet specific college standards and expectations of professors.
Other perils include the possibility of the students losing the opportunity to develop critical thinking and writing skills.
Availability of the assignment services encourage students to bypass their academic responsibilities, seeking shortcuts that will not contribute to personal growth or learning.
Another expert Gurpreet Singh was quoted as saying: ‘Paid assignment services often provide low-quality work not tailored to the student’s specific requirements. These assignments may not reflect the student’s true capabilities, which can negatively impact their grades and academic standing. Moreover, relying on these services undermines the integrity of the education system and can lead to serious consequences, such as academic dishonesty charges.’
Online service sell the same assignment to several students leading to the issues of plagiarism and question of originality in submissions.
Given the situation, colleges are increasingly vigilant and use plagiarism detection tools, leading to academic penalties or even expulsion of students.
‘One of the social media influencers studying in Canada revealed in a viral YouTube video that she hired someone from India to complete her assignment. As a result, her college authorities suspended her degree and questioned her study permit. This serves as a cautionary tale, showing that such practices can have severe consequences for students’ academic and professional futures,’ Tirath Singh reportedly said.
