L2: Empuraan gets U/A certificate, set for March 27 theatrical release
text_fieldsThe highly anticipated Malayalam political thriller L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal, has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The film is scheduled to release in theatres on March 27.
L2: Empuraan is the sequel to Lucifer, the 2019 blockbuster that became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of its time, crossing Rs 200 crore at the box office. Apart from directing, Prithviraj Sukumaran reprises his role as Zayed Masood, a mercenary commando and key figure in the notorious Khureshi-Ab’ram criminal syndicate, which was central to Lucifer's storyline.
In a previously released video, Prithviraj spoke about expanding the universe established in Lucifer, promising a more intricate plot with a larger ensemble of characters and diverse locations while maintaining a tightly woven narrative. He also hinted at challenging the perception that the Khureshi-Ab'ram underworld empire was invincible, leaving audiences questioning whether that assumption was truly correct.
L2: Empuraan is produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Subaskaran, with a screenplay by Murali Gopy. The film's cinematography is helmed by Sujith Vaassudev, while Akhilesh Mohan takes charge of the editing. The music is composed by Deepak Dev, ensuring a powerful background score to elevate the high-stakes drama.
