Kinnar Akhara founder expels Mamta Kulkarni days after her initiation
text_fieldsBollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni’s recent induction into the Kinnar Akhara as a Mahamandaleshwar has created much furore within the Akhara, with many prominent figures questioning the initiation of the former actress, leading to her expulsion along with the one who introduced her into the Akhara.
Rishi Ajay Das, founder of the Kinnar Akhara, expelled both Mamta Kulkarni and Mahamandaleshwar Laxminarayan Tripathi on Friday, citing procedural and ethical breaches in the ordination process.
Rishi Ajay Das accused Laxminarayan Tripathi of inducting Mamta Kulkarni, who faces allegations of treason, without his prior knowledge, and criticised the decision to grant her the title of Mahamandaleshwar.
The induction, which took place on 24 January, marked Mamta’s transition into a spiritual life, and she was given a new spiritual identity, Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri, after performing the Pind Daan ritual at the Sangam on the same evening.
The title of Mahamandaleshwar, traditionally reserved for senior Hindu monks of the Dashanami order, carries significant responsibilities, including the promotion of Sanatana Dharma and societal well-being. Mamta’s appointment has sparked debates about her suitability for the role, given her past association with controversies.
Visuals of Mamta Kulkarni, clad in saffron robes and adorned with rudraksha malas, surfaced on social media following her meeting with Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxminarayan Tripathi and Mahamandaleshwar Swami Jai Ambanand Giri of the Juna Akhara.
