Los Angeles: Priyanka Chopra and Guneet Monga-backed short film "Anuja" has lost to the Dutch-language movie "I'm Not a Robot" at the prestigious 97th Oscar Awards ceremony held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles,

"Anuja," a film about a 9-year-old prodigy and her sister Palak, who face a life-changing opportunity that challenges their bond and reflects the global struggles of young girls, was competing in the Best Live Action Short category at the Oscars 2025.

Other contenders included “A Lien,” “The Last Ranger,” and “The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent.”

“I’m Not A Robot” is a science fiction film directed by Victoria Warmerdam. The synopsis states, “After failing an online CAPTCHA test, Max faces an existential crisis when he believes he might actually be a robot.”

In addition to Priyanka Chopra and Guneet Monga, Hollywood star and writer Mindy Kaling also serves as a producer on "Anuja," which is currently streaming on Netflix.

Under the direction of Adam J. Graves, "Anuja" recounts the story of a 9-year-old girl who, alongside her older sister Palak, works in a garment factory. The narrative revolves around the young protagonist's pivotal decision, which will significantly impact her future and family.

Featuring Sajda Pathan in the lead role, this short film was developed in collaboration with Mira Nair's Salaam Baalak Trust. The production credits include Graves Films, Shine Global Inc. (Academy Award winners for "War/Dance" and "Inocente"), Krushan Naik Films, and Salaam Baalak Trust.

In January, Priyanka expressed her pride in the "beautiful film" "Anuja," on which she serves as an executive producer.

Priyanka took to her Instagram stories, where she had shared a snapshot of a news article from variety.com, which had the title “Netflix Acquires ‘Anuja,’ Oscar-Shortlisted Short Film Backed by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Mindy Kaling, and Guneet Monga Kapoor.”
