The Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Mamata Banerjee, has achieved a decisive victory in the West Bengal assembly by-elections, capturing all six constituencies, including the Madarihat seat in Alipurduar district.

This marks a significant win as the BJP had held the Madarihat constituency since 2016.

The TMC also triumphed in Sitai, Haroa, Naihati, Taldangra, and Medinipur constituencies. In Sitai, TMC’s Sangita Roy delivered a landslide victory with a margin of 1.3 lakh votes against BJP’s Dipak Kumar Ray. In Madarihat, Jayprakash Toppo of the TMC defeated BJP’s Rahul Lohar by over 28,000 votes. Similarly, Naihati saw Sanat Dey secure a victory with nearly a 50,000-vote lead over Rupak Mitra of the BJP.

Haroa witnessed Sheikh Rabiul Islam of the TMC defeating AISF's Piyarul Islam by more than 1.3 lakh votes. Sujoy Hazra of the TMC claimed Medinipur with a margin of nearly 34,000 votes over BJP’s Subhajit Roy, while Falguni Singhababu secured Taldangra with a similar lead, defeating BJP’s Ananya Roy Chakraborty.

Celebrations erupted across the state, including outside Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kolkata. Banerjee expressed gratitude to supporters, stating, “Your blessings inspire us to work for the people. We are not zamindars; we are guardians.”

Abhishek Banerjee, TMC MP and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, also celebrated the victory. He thanked the voters for rejecting opposition efforts to discredit the government and reaffirming trust in the TMC. In his message, he praised the party’s grassroots workers and described the win as a “democratic dismantling of Bangla Birodhis and their false narratives.”

The by-elections involved 48 assembly seats and two parliamentary constituencies across 15 states, with results for Maharashtra and Jharkhand also being tallied.
