Kumbha Mela fame IIT Baba's parents want him to return home
text_fieldsJhajjar, Haryana: The former aerospace engineer Abhey Singh’s parents appealed him to return home after he hit headlines wearing ‘sanyasi’ attire while attending Kumbha Mela a couple of days earlier.
Abhey Singh, who cut a swami figure in saffron cloths, came to be known as ‘IIT Baba' and gained attention at the Mela currently happening in Prayagraj.
However his father Karan Grewal, an advocate based in Jhajjar, reportedly told NDTV that ‘Our family wishes Abhey to return home.’
Karan Grewal knew better than appealing because Singh’s return is less likely and added that ‘But after achieving so much, it's not easy for him to come back.’
Grewal remembered his son always doing ‘extraordinary and the best’ in academics.
Coming out of IIT Bombay, Singh went on to pursue a Master's in Design and worked in New Delhi and Canada.
Back home from Canada later, he spent winters in spiritual places including Shimla, Mussoorie, and Dharamshala.
Afterwards he decided to become a ‘Sanyasi’ Grewal said, pointing to the fact that his was ‘always interested in spirituality’.
Grewal said he was in contact with his son ‘until six months ago’, before Singh blocked all communication with him.
‘I heard he was in Haridwar and wanted to visit him but couldn't, and now he has gone viral in the media,’ he added.
Grewal ‘obviously’ wants his son back home and added that ‘His mother asked him to come back, to take care of the family, but he replied that after becoming a sanyasi, that's no longer possible.’
However, Grewal said that his son was always independent and a change of mind is less likely, adding that ‘Everyone has the right to live their life the way they choose, and I can't pressure him.’
When asked about talking him out spiritual path, he said he would try to convince him but ‘In my heart, I feel that after reaching this stage, he's unlikely to listen to us.’
IIT Baba Abhey Singh earlier told NDTV that ‘domestic violence’ taking place between his parents ‘traumatised’ him as a child, before influencing his spiritual path.
