JDU sacks Manipur chief over unilateral decision to withdraw support from BJP
text_fieldsThe Janata Dal (United) [JDU] removed its Manipur state chief, Ksh Biren Singh, following his decision to withdraw support for the BJP-led government in the state without consulting the party's central leadership.
Ksh Biren Singh sent a letter to the Governor announcing the withdrawal of JDU's support from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Manipur. However, the party quickly distanced itself from his actions.
The JDU clarified that its sole MLA in the Manipur assembly, Md Abdul Nasir, would not be joining the Opposition bench despite Singh's statement suggesting otherwise.
The JDU initially secured six seats in the February-March 2022 assembly elections. However, five of its MLAs later switched allegiance to the BJP, leaving Md Abdul Nasir as the party's only representative in the assembly.
The JDU criticised Ksh Biren Singh for making a significant political decision without prior approval from the party's central leaders. In an official statement, the party announced Singh’s removal as Manipur chief, emphasising the importance of adherence to organisational protocols.
