ED raids 14 locations linked to former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel’s son in alleged liquor scam
text_fieldsThe Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday, March 10, conducted searches at multiple locations linked to Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in connection with an alleged liquor scam and money laundering case.
According to reports, the central agency carried out raids at 14 locations across Chhattisgarh, including premises associated with Baghel’s close aides.
The investigation stems from FIRs registered by the Chhattisgarh Police, which alleged large-scale irregularities in the sale of liquor during the tenure of the previous state government.
Authorities claim that liquor was sold off the books in retail outlets, causing an estimated loss of Rs 2,000 crore to the state exchequer. The illegally obtained funds were allegedly funneled to influential politicians and bureaucrats within the state.
Reacting to the ED’s searches, Bhupesh Baghel took to social media to express his discontent. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he stated, "When the false case that had been ongoing for seven years was dismissed by the court, today, ED guests entered my residence in Bhilai this morning. If anyone is attempting to stop Congress in Punjab through this conspiracy, they are mistaken."
