Mumbai Police recreate crime scene at Saif Ali Khan's home
text_fieldsMumbai: On Tuesday, Mumbai Police took Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, the accused in the Saif Ali Khan house attack case, to the actor's Bandra residence to recreate the crime scene.
Shehzad was escorted to Khan’s apartment on the 12th floor of the Satguru Sharan building at around 5:30 a.m. The police team aimed to understand how he managed to enter the premises without being captured on surveillance cameras.
To piece together the sequence of events, police retraced Shehzad’s movements after he left Khan’s residence. The accused was taken to a nearby garden, the National College Bus Stop, and eventually Bandra Railway Station, from where he allegedly fled. Officials are investigating his route to the station and how he managed to escape unnoticed.
After recreating the scenes, Shehzad was taken back to the Bandra Police Station. Investigators are meticulously recording the chain of events, starting from his entry into the building to his subsequent escape before his arrest.
Shehzad, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, was arrested on Sunday, January 19, from Thane city while attempting to flee to his native village in Bangladesh. Hailing from the Jhalokati district, Shehzad was detained at Hiranandani Estate in Thane. A court has remanded him in police custody for five days. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime, stating, “Haan, maine hi kiya hai” (Yes, I did it).
The incident occurred on January 16, when Shehzad broke into Saif Ali Khan’s house in an attempted robbery. During the botched burglary, Khan was attacked and stabbed six times.
Following the assault, Mumbai Police launched an intensive manhunt lasting over 70 hours. The search led them to a labor camp in a forested area in Thane. When Shehzad realized police were closing in, he attempted to hide in the bushes but was arrested after a seven-hour operation.
DCP Dixit Gedam confirmed that Shehzad is a Bangladeshi national with no Indian documents. Investigations revealed he had been living in Mumbai under the alias Bijoy Das for the past four months. Items found in his possession further corroborated his Bangladeshi origin.
The police are continuing their efforts to establish a detailed timeline of the incident and Shehzad’s movements, ensuring no element of the case remains unclear.
